December 24, 2014
Roberto Ayala, Marketing Coordinator

LACMA is closed on Christmas Day, but we're open on the 26th and through the weekend. Enjoy weekend tours of the collection and discover artists both new and familiar. On Friday, a 20-minute survey of Larry Sultan: Here and Home, the first retrospective of the California photographer, takes place at 1 pm, followed by the crowd-pleasing Highlights of the Museum tour at 3 pm. Adjacent to the Sultan exhibition, check out Variations: Conversation in and around Abstract Painting, presenting 29 contemporary artists from LACMA’s collection; the exhibition investigates how new techniques and forms have given rise to new developments in painting.

Saturday, see Samurai: Japanese Armor from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection, a treasure trove of Japanese warrior armor and regalia; a tour of the exhibition begins at 10:30 am. Admission to the exhibition includes access to two nearby shows: Nature and the American Vision: The Hudson River School and Pierre Huyghe. At 1 pm Women Artists of the Russian Avant Garde explores an oft-overlooked body of work, and at 2 pm, you can learn more about LACMA's collection of modern art.

On Sunday, a tour of the vivid Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist at noon looks at the entire career of one of the most important artists of the Harlem Renaissance. The 2 pm tour of Korean art examines the collection of paintings, sculptures, porcelain, and calligraphy in LACMA’s exquisite Korean art galleries. Visit the newest exhibition, The Language of Xu Bing, while you’re in the Hammer Building and finish the weekend with a grand tour of European art at 3 pm.
