With the weekend at your doorstep, take advantage of some downtime and visit the museum. On Sunday, ring in the start of spring and the Iranian New Year during the Farhang Foundation’s Nowruz celebration at LACMA. This daylong event includes free dance and musical performances, children’s activities, and a traditional Iranian costume parade beginning at 3 pm. In the late afternoon, the Iranian rock band Kiosk performs at the BP Grand Entrance. In the Bing Theater at 1 pm, purchase tickets for the world premiere of The Sounds of a Persian Spring by Zohreh Jooya. A day earlier on Saturday, the Seventh Annual Farhang Foundation Short Film Festival presents the top six nominees from their yearly competition with emerging talents from around the globe. Afterwards, a reception with the filmmakers includes music and Persian-themed food and beverages.
Around campus, Variations: Conversations in and around Abstract Painting reaches its conclusion on Sunday. Featuring 30 artists whose work reflects the language and style of abstraction, this exhibition illustrates how artists have reinvented abstract painting. Opening Saturday, From the Archives: Art and Technology at LACMA, 1967–1971 includes photographs, correspondences, and ephemera documenting the first iteration of the Art and Technology program at the museum.
Uncover one of today’s Art and Tech Lab projects, EEG AR: Things We Have Lost by artist John Craig Freeman, during Clinic Drop-in Sessions on Saturday at noon and Augmented Reality Viewing Drop-ins on Sunday at 4 pm.
