Confidential to Our Long Lost Sibling

September 14, 2015

Dearest Sister:

It was such a great surprise to learn that you're alive and well. We thought you had perished during one of your transatlantic voyages, or worse even, become torn from your family (as we've seen happen to some of your less-fortunate cousins), left to wither, forever misunderstood. So you can imagine the utter delight with which we greeted your news and photographs. You looked as lovely as ever: we all remember when your father Michael ordered that lace mantle for your mother, the matching pearl strings, and the strange wedding fans which would never open! Those were the days!

After all these years, nothing would give us more pleasure than to give you a warm welcome back to the family. Soon, in fact, some of us will be getting together for a very special occasion, which we would love to share with you. We wish we knew how to find you so you could join us, if you so desired. Knowing that you frequent LACMA, we requested special permission from the museum to reach you this way—which they kindly allowed. With luck you will read this note and contact us again.

Your brother Sextus, and the rest of your loving family who has searched for you for so long.

She is wearing a mantilla not a "lace mantle".
