Welcome the weekend with Jazz at LACMA on Friday night and listen to the musical stylings of the Ryan Cross Jazz Eclectic with Special Guest Spanky Wilson. Cross can be heard at leading spots such as Hotel Angeleno and the Biltmore Hotel

CARtoons: Art of America’s Car Culture opens on Saturday and presents a spirited documentation of American car culture over three decades. CARtoons magazine, the most popular and longest-running publication dedicated to automotive cartooning, proclaimed itself “the only humor magazine in the world for the lovers and owners of cars.” The Los Angeles-based magazine featured hot-rods, drag-racing, muscle cars, makes and models from Chevys and Mustangs to Corvettes, and even imaginary and fantastic vehicles.

When you’re done exploring the galleries on Saturday, step out into Hancock Park for a taste of Latin music performed by Melena and the Ladies of Salsa. Born in Havana, Cuba, percussionist Melena performs traditional rhythms that have traveled from Africa to Cuba to the dance floors of the United States.

Take your kids to Andell Family Sundays for a special workshop in conjunction with the spectacular exhibition Royal Hawaiian Featherwork: Na Hulu Ali'i. Royalty in Hawai'i wore spectacular cloaks, capes, and leis made from brightly colored feathers. Your children will discover the historic featherwork in person; then, in artist-led workshops, they will make their own feather creations and dance hula.

Close out your weekend with classical music performed by iPalpiti Soloists and Duo Gurfinkel on Sunday night. iPalpiti Artists International advances the careers of young professional musicians and promotes peace and understanding through music. Their membership brings unique insight to music making, creating a cultural network among more than 200 artists from all over the world, forging life-long friendships and promoting universal awareness and understanding.
