This Weekend at LACMA

October 6, 2017
Myra Hassaram, Marketing Coordinator

Friday’s jazz concert will feature a set of Thelonious Monk's original compositions and personal rearrangements. The Jeff Parker Quartet will take the LACMA stage as part of the 10th Annual Angel City Jazz Festival. Get your groove on Friday night!

On Saturday, LACMA Local members will take a walking tour of LACMA’s outdoor artworks, from Rodin sculptures to an ever-evolving installation of palm trees. Comprising over a hundred palms, cycads, and tree ferns, this installation is a nod to the nearby La Brea Tar Pits and its ice age discoveries.

Porfirio Gutiérrez is a Master Weaver in the Zapotec tradition and hails from a small village in southern Mexico. Join him on Sunday at 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm for a special workshop as part of Andell Family Sundays. Gutiérrez will share history of the Zapotec arts and lead participants through the natural indigo dyeing process.

Andell Family Sundays are weekly family events that feature artist-led workshops, gallery tours, and activities. The focus shifts to from one theme to another each month based on exhibitions and artworks on view at LACMA. This month focuses on the exhibition Found in Translation and the design elements from California and Mexico. Bring the whole family and have fun!
