This Week at LACMA

December 25, 2022

African American artist Howard Smith moved to Finland to escape systematic racism and lack of professional opportunities in his home country. In Finland, Smith designed printed textiles, many of which were exported back to the United States. Visit LACMA this week and see Scandinavian Design and the United States, 1890–1980 to learn about artists like Smith and the extensive design exchanges between the Nordic countries and the United States.
