This Week at LACMA

June 2, 2024

This week, stimulate both your eyes and your appetite at events for all ages presented alongside Dining with the Sultan at Charles White Elementary School, a companion exhibition to Dining with the Sultan: The Fine Art of Feasting that showcases works from LACMA’s expansive collection of Islamic art related to food and dining culture.

On Tuesday, June 4, drop in for the Dining with the Sultan Student and Community Showcase for hands-on workshops where you can make your own contribution to the community art gallery and enjoy Arabic coffee from Café Sheera. The day also includes a special Art & Music performance with traditional Persian instruments, featuring Amir Hosein Pourjavady and Shadi Shafiei on the setar accompanied by Mehrdad Siahcheshman on the tombak.

On Thursday, June 6, get crafty at our Set the Table! Monthly Craft Workshop, also inspired by Dining with the Sultan, which will introduce visitors of all ages to different mediums and teach them to customize their table settings through embroidery, watercolor, collage, and even paper cutting.
