This Week at LACMA

July 21, 2024

Simone Leigh is the first comprehensive survey of the richly layered work of this celebrated artist. Leigh has created works exploring questions of Black femme subjectivity and knowledge production and her art references vernacular and hand-made processes from across the African diaspora. Visit LACMA to see Leigh’s profoundly moving work and join a free docent-led tour to learn more about the exhibition.

On Thursday, July 25, don't miss the panel discussion Food for Thought: Combating Food Insecurity in Los Angeles, which will explore systemic food insecurity in the city and how local artists and organizers are fighting for change. Panelists include Olympia Auset of SÜPRMARKT LA, Glen Curado of World Harvest Food Bank, and Dr. Karima Hirani of the Islamic Center of Southern California, moderated by Nkemdilim Nwosu of Food Forward. The talk is presented alongside Dining with the Sultan: The Fine Art of Feasting, which showcases some 250 works of art related to the sourcing, preparation, serving, and consumption of food.
