Simone Leigh explores questions of Black femme subjectivity and offers visitors a timely opportunity to gain a holistic understanding of the artist’s complex and profoundly moving work. Addressing a wide swath of historical periods, geographies, and traditions, Leigh's art references vernacular and hand-made processes from across the African diaspora, as well as forms traditionally associated with African art and architecture.
On Tuesday, August 6, immerse yourself in a sound bath, a multisensory experience led by Bloom Holistic Healing that will offer a meditative moment to connect with the works on view and with each other. On Thursday, August 8, you can also get a deeper look into Leigh's work at a docent-led tour of the exhibition.
This weekend is also the last chance to visit Dining with the Sultan at Charles White Elementary School. All ages are invited to the closing celebration on Saturday, August 10, to see the exhibition one last time and join the final Set the Table! Monthly Craft Workshop.
