LACMA is thrilled to announce that the museum is now accepting applications for the Andrew W. Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellowship. The MUCF is a paid, two-year fellowship designed for students from all academic backgrounds and qualifications interested in fine art and museum studies, introducing them to the curatorial profession and to working at a major art institution
This two-year fellowship at LACMA offers hands-on experience in a museum setting, where fellows gain experiential learning, professional mentorship, and opportunities to engage topics like exhibition creation, rigorous research, and collection development, to name a few, assisting curators and staff on exhibitions, collections, and public programs. Each fellow is paired with a curatorial mentor and collaborates with professionals across departments—including conservation, education, and publications—to deepen their academic learning and expand their understanding of art and art history. Fellows will commit 12–16 hours per month during the academic year, followed by a full-time (40 hours per week), 10-week summer internship at LACMA.
“The Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellowship at LACMA was truly an eye-opening and valuable experience as someone starting out in the museum field,” said Lilia Destin, 2021 Summer Academy participant and 2021–22 Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellow.
“I am profoundly grateful for the immersion the program offered,” echoed Audrey Min, 2015 Summer Academy participant and 2015–17 Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellow. “Being a part of daily working life at an institution is a rare privilege—I was exposed to the many moving parts it takes to sustain a large museum, as well as to its part in the larger ecosystem of the art world.”
