This Week at LACMA

Designed to evoke the type of mid-century cinema where the films that inspired Youssef Nabil’s art were shown, Now Showing: Youssef Nabil’s I Saved My Belly Dancer showcases the artist’s 2015 video I Saved My Belly Dancer, a recent LACMA acquisition. At the exhibition, which is now open, you can explore the video alongside 11 related photographs that parallel the filmic storyline and contemporaneous Egyptian film posters.

During your visit, also be sure to see We Live in Painting: The Nature of Color in Mesoamerican Art in its final week. This is also the last week to catch Act on It! Artists, Community, and the Brockman Gallery in Los Angeles at the Lancaster Museum of Art and History before it closes on Sunday, August 31.

On Saturday, August 30, for National Grief Awareness Day, Cooking with LACMA: Outpouring of Spirits at Open Market will delve into the linked history of alcoholic spirits and the commemoration of the dead. Guests will partake in a guided wine and soju tasting while also learning about some of the drinking vessels in LACMA’s permanent collection.
