Visit LACMA this week and learn about Sam Francis, the legendary American abstract painter who broke all the rules in his personal and artistic life. One of the world’s preeminent Abstract Expressionists, the California-born artist first traveled to Japan in 1957, quickly established studios and residences there, and became active in a circle of avant-garde artists, writers, filmmakers, architects, and composers, including members of the nascent Gutai and Mono-ha movements. See his works on view in Sam Francis and Japan: Emptiness Overflowing now!
Don't forget, May is Arts Month in Los Angeles County. Discover the many and diverse arts offerings awaiting you throughout the region.
