This Week at LACMA

August 18, 2025

Designed to evoke the type of mid-century cinema where the films that inspired Youssef Nabil’s art were shown, the exhibition Now Showing: Youssef Nabil’s I Saved My Belly Dancer showcases his 2015 video alongside related photographs also by the artist and contemporaneous Egyptian movie posters. In the video, Tahar Rahim performs as the artist’s alter ego and the belly dancer is played by Salma Hayek. The exhibition opens Sunday, August 24, but members see it first. Member Previews are Thursday, August 21, through Saturday, August 23.

If you haven't yet explored the exhibition Realms of the Dharma: Buddhist Art Across Asia, Tuesday is the perfect opportunity to experience a contemplative evening among the works on view. In the Moment: A Mindful Evening with Buddhist Art will feature guided meditation and gallery-based activities that invite creative responses.
