Today, Friday, September 16, marks the first birthday of the Study Center for Photography and Works on Paper! To celebrate, we're mounting a public viewing of work from the collection all day today. The works reflect the themes of Guillermo del Toro: At Home with Monsters. Later, enjoy the smooth sounds of pianist and composer Theo Saunders, whose musical odyssey has taken him to four continents, 25 countries, and right into Friday night’s Jazz at LACMA. The concert is accompanied by the work of legendary visual artist George Herms, most notable for piecing together everyday found objects and turning them into groundbreaking artwork.

Join Art + Technology Lab grant recipients Nonny de la Peña and Alex Rivera as they present a demo of their virtual reality project Reaching the Shore on Saturday. Step into the world of a factory worker and his family as they struggle with access, addiction, and power.

If you’re new in town and want to meet some new pals, you might want to join LACMA Local. On Saturday, Local: Ice Breaker invites Local members to participate in the ultimate get-to-know-you game. Discover each other’s zodiac signs, favorite types of art, and other personal facts with the museum as your backdrop. By the end of the night, Locals will leave with new insights on living in L.A., new pals, and maybe even some post-event plans.

Over the past several years, Manfredi Gioacchini has visited the studios of Los Angeles artists to capture informal portraits for his new book. Visit Art Catalogues on Sunday afternoon to see the portraits and to hear Manfredi speak with artist Jonas Wood about the ongoing project.

Wind down with the Los Angeles Symphonic Winds Sunday night in the Bing Theater. Members come from a vast pool of gifted Los Angeles-based professional, semi-professional, and amateur musicians, many of whom have performed with major symphonies, motion picture and television recording studio orchestras, noted big bands, and entertainment-world headliners.
