Mapping the Infinite: Cosmologies Across Cultures presents a group of rare and visually stunning artworks from different cultures and time periods to explore the variety of human attempts to explain the universe’s origins, mechanics, and meaning.
This week, several programs take a deeper look at the exhibition. On Thursday, February 6, John Mulchaey, President, Carnegie Science, and Director, Carnegie Science Observatories, and Juna Kollmeier, Director of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, will discuss 20th- and 21st-century astronomical discoveries during a walkthrough of Mapping the Infinite.
On Sunday, February 9, you can join the first session of Poetry in the Galleries: The Universe's Plaything, a five-session poetry writing class inspired by Mapping the Infinite and works in LACMA's collection. The class will feature writing exercises, discussions of poetry and ekphrasis, and daily practices to keep you writing at home.
