LACMA is pleased to offer a very special collectible item to our visitors—a TAP card featuring a reproduction of I Have a Dream by Charles White. The original lithograph was commissioned by LACMA in 1976 and is now on view at the museum.

In honor of Charles White—and his lasting influence on his students, including celebrated LA Metro artist, Richard Wyatt—LACMA has partnered with Metro on a unique program that includes co-presentation of several events and the special-edition TAP card. The effort coincides with two current LACMA exhibitions, Charles White: A Retrospective and Life Model: Charles White and His Students

Ian White, artist and son of Charles White, commented on the landmark partnership: "A TAP card featuring one of my father's artworks is both an honor and a fitting tribute. Charles White spent the last decades of his life in Los Angeles, creating some of his most iconic works—from paintings and prints to murals that remain in place today—and teaching the next generation of artists. His legacy of celebrating human dignity still resounds throughout Los Angeles County—one might say, wherever a TAP card will take you."

TAP cards are primary means of access to the Metro system. They improve the transit experience in Los Angeles, allowing Metro riders to pay for bus and rail trips as well as other transit programs throughout L.A. County. Users can customize online accounts linked to the cards to fit individual payment and mobility options.

The Charles White TAP card is available only at LACMA, distributed exclusively at the Ticket Office on Smidt Welcome Plaza beginning Saturday, April 20, at 10 am. They are free with the purchase of a General Admission ticket—one per person on a first come, first served basis. Quantities are very limited and expected to go fast.

Patrons can take the Metro Rapid 720 or Metro Local 20 to Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. Plan your trip to the museum today!
