This year, there’s a new way to experience the museum with Third Weekends at LACMA. On the third weekend of each month, you’ll find both free and ticketed programs inspired by our encyclopedic collection and special exhibitions, offering something for every art and culture lover all in one place.
Third Weekends at LACMA kicks off this month with four days of events from Thursday, January 15, through Sunday, January 18, featuring a dynamic lineup of tours, workshops, and talks. It begins with a panel discussion inspired by the presentation Austrian Expressionism and Otto Kallir on view in the Modern Art Galleries that will introduce you to the remarkable legacy of the visionary dealer who helped bring artists like Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt to global attention.
On Friday, January 16, hear from Darren Walker and Los Angeles artist Mark Bradford in conversation with LACMA director Michael Govan as they share insights on the museum as a vibrant community hub and how art spaces can ignite dialogue during the second session of The Genesis Talks series.
On Saturday, January 17, start the day with an intimate Art + Wellness workshop that marks one year since the 2025 Los Angeles fires with art therapist Nadia Paredes, who will lead meditation, guided looking, and hands-on art-making inspired by personal connections to place and recovery. Later on, you can join LACMA curators Leah Lehmbeck and David Bardeen at Impressing L.A.: How LACMA Collected Its First Masterpieces. At this walkthrough of our newest exhibition, Collecting Impressionism at LACMA, they will discuss the collection's historical relationship to a developing city and how our understanding of Impressionism itself has changed over time.
End the weekend on Sunday, January 18, at another Art + Wellness session in commemoration of the Los Angeles fires, Gathering in Rhythm. You can also hear from filmmaker Kahlil Joseph at a presentation of his genre-bending documentary BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions, adapted from his renowned video art installation, followed by a panel discussion with some of his collaborators.
