This Weekend at LACMA

December 12, 2014
Roberto Ayala, Marketing Coordinator

Two new installations at LACMA open to the public this Saturday, Christine Corday: Protoist Series, Selected Forms and Thomas Demand: Pacific Sun. Taking an approach that involves manipulating matter in and out of different states, Corday’s first solo presentation at a U.S. museum centers around two sculptures that actually exist as recording devices in which handprints from visitors will appear over time as rust. See these interactive and towering artworks outdoors, in the BP Grand Entrance. In the work by German artist Thomas Demand, a full scale projection of a life-size, paper model cruise ship interior tumbles and sways in a storm, simultaneously producing a provocative and disquieting effect.

See literally dozens of films at LACMA this weekend. Friday evening, two films from the series A New Career in a New Town begin at 7:30 pm in the Bing Theater—first Letter from an Unknown Woman followed by Liebelie. More movies from the Academy @ LACMA’s Saturday series The Perfect Match starts at 6 pm, with the Adventures of Robin Hood, then Mildred Pierce at 8 pm. Special this weekend, the Los Angeles International Children’s Film Festival returns to the museum for its 10th year, presenting full-length and short animation, live action, and documentary films for all ages. This free festival takes place Saturday and Sunday throughout the day and is free to public. See the full schedule of films online.
