Watch part one of the new docudrama series When We Rise on Saturday night, followed by a conversation with director Gus Van Sant and creator Dustin Lance Black. This mini-series event chronicles the real-life personal and political struggles, setbacks, and triumphs of LGBT people who helped pioneer one of the last legs of the U.S. civil rights movement. Reserve your free tickets today.

Make, look, and talk about art at Andell Family Sundays. This Sunday, explore the hyper-detailed large scale work of artist Toba Khedoori, then participate in a dance and drawing project led by one of LACMA’s teaching artists. Khedoori’s work celebrates the silent and slow process of working by hand. For more background on the artist, read our post on Unframed.

Also on Sunday, step into Art Catalogues for Ana Prvacki’s Tent, quintent, bows and elbows. Experience the sculpture, sound piece, and performance accompanied by music from the Lyris Quartet. Tent physically contains and embodies sound to make physical the ephemeral. A conversation and book signing will follow the short performance.

Monday, January 16, kicks off the year’s first Target Free Holiday Monday! On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, enjoy free general admission at the museum, with bilingual tours, family sketching activities, and live flamenco music by Mark Towns.
