Beat the heat and come cool off in our galleries this weekend at LACMA. Did you know that our galleries are free after 3 pm for L.A. County residents? If you or someone you know has never visited the museum, First-time Fridays, starting at 5 pm on Friday, July 27, is the perfect opportunity to check out what LACMA has to offer. Stop by the Ticket Office and let us know it's your first time visiting and you will receive special discounts, a gift, and more! Then, stick around for Jazz at LACMA at 6 pm for a stellar performance from the chart-topping recording artist Billy Mitchell.
On Saturday, July 28, at 5 pm, treat yourself to the evocative Afro-Cuban rhythms and unique sound of SitaraSon as part of the Latin Sounds Series.
Then on Sunday, enjoy a free screening of the 1969 cult classic The Color of Pomegranates (Sayat Nova) at 3 pm, in conjunction with the exhibition In the Fields of Empty Days: The Intersection of Past and Present in Iranian Art. At 6 pm, move over to the Bing Theater for the Sundays Live Series, showcasing Pianist Daniel Wnukoski performing mazurkas by Chopin, Fitelberg, and more!
Lastly, don't forget to say goodbye to renowned artist David Hockney's friends in David Hockney: 82 Portraits and 1 Still-life. Well known and celebrated for his portraits, the 81-year old artist's vibrant exhibition offers an intimate view into his orbit of family, members of his staff, and close friends. Also, don't miss the adjacent gallery space which complements the exhibition, featuring additional portraits of sitters such as British diver Tom Daley, a massive photomural drafted by Hockney using 3,000 photographs of his studio, and a video that includes commentary from the artist himself. The exhibition's last day is Sunday, July 29.
