Step into Spring with Third Weekends at LACMA

March 13, 2026
Sheridan Hunter, Communications Intern

It’s heating up outside, and so are we—Third Weekends at LACMA are back! From Thursday, March 19, through Sunday, March 22, experience a dynamic lineup of talks, workshops, and events that are sure to put a smile on your face this spring.

Kick off the weekend on Thursday, March 19, with Reimagining Monuments, a timely discussion between Tavares Strachan, Paul M. Farber, Hamza Walker, and Bennett Simpson on art, identity, and power presented in conjunction with Tavares Strachan: The Day Tomorrow Began at LACMA and MONUMENTS at MOCA and The Brick. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn how artists challenge the histories that monuments preserve—and the absences they reveal—at this outdoor conversation.

On Friday, March 20, join curator Britt Salvesen for a walkthrough of the exhibition Fútbol Is Life: Animated Sportraits by Lyndon J. Barrois, Sr. Come see Barrois’s miniature “sportraits” for yourself, and learn more about the artist’s inventive approach to storytelling and animation through his unique vision of the world’s most beloved sport just in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles.

Drawing from Tavares Strachan’s immersive excursions into hidden histories and speculative futures in the exhibition The Day Tomorrow Began, mother and daughter design duo Aama Studio welcome you to a film salon on Saturday, March 21, where they will weave cinema, textiles, and personal memory to tell intergenerational stories. Come explore Black liberation, arcs of migration, and evolving identities, linking ancestral memory to the possibilities of today and tomorrow.

You can also hear from curator Rita Gonzalez at a walkthrough of the exhibition Grounded the same day, which invites visitors to see land not just as terrain, but as a foundation for exploring ecology, sovereignty, memory, and home.

On Sunday, March 22, end the weekend on a high note by joining LACMA curator Erin Maynes and a special guest for Surface & Style: A Costume and Textile Tour of Deep Cuts. Come learn how block printing has shaped garments, surface design, and material traditions across time, and gain insights into the intersection of dress, craft, and global exchange.

As always, you’re also welcome to drop-in on any of our docent-led tours and family-friendly activities happening throughout the weekend, so we encourage you to take advantage of all that LACMA has to offer. Whether you’re treating yourself to a solo date or adventuring with a group, grab your sun protection and come make the most of your visit to LACMA next weekend!
