On Friday at 7:30 pm, LACMA premiers Asher Hartman and the Gawdafful National Theater’s The Silver, the Black, the Wicked Dance, a dark comedic play about predation in American life. Gawdafful National Theater is a company of "actor-artist-insects" known for their highly nuanced, densely textured performances, and their ability to create dazzling shifts in mood and perception. Free tickets will be available beginning at 6:30 pm at the Ticket Office on the L.A. Times Central Court. Audience members will be guided from the Ticket Office to the performance’s exact location.
Two additional performances of The Silver, the Black, the Wicked Dance are scheduled for Saturday at 5 pm and 7:30 pm. Learn more about this special event in our recent interview with Asher Hartman.
Also on Friday, at 6 pm, the Jazz at LACMA series continues with the Pat Senatore Trio, led by bassist Senatore, with Josh Nelson on piano and Mark Ferber on drums, playing a free concert at the BP Grand Entrance.
On Saturday afternoon, LACMA Local members will gather to view the exhibition Reigning Men: Fashion in Menswear, 1715–2015, followed by a menswear-inspired art-making activity led by artist Phranc Gottlieb. (LACMA Local is a membership that offers access to fun, interactive hangouts every other Saturday at the museum.)
And on Sunday, our ongoing Sundays Live series features pianist Richard Grayson, who will perform improvisations on themes submitted by audience members and friends. This free performance begins in the Bing Theater at 6 pm.
Meanwhile, take time to visit ongoing exhibitions like Agnes Martin and Robert Mapplethorpe: The Perfect Medium, or participate in one of the many free tours happening this weekend, including America's Artistic Heritage at 2 pm and Art of Korea at 3 pm on Saturday, and Latin American Art at 12 pm and Art of Japan at 2 pm on Sunday.
