Lay out your picnic blankets during Jazz at LACMA on Friday night for Danny Janklow’s Elevation Band and groove to their soulful and innovative sound. A semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Competition, Janklow has been traveling the world performing with a variety of bands ranging from the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra to MONK’estra.
Gather around Hancock Park for Latin Sounds on Saturday with the Boogaloo Assassins. Heavily indebted to the classic sounds of New York’s late '60s–early '70s Latin music explosion, the Asesinos serve up traditional Latin soul, blues, and descargas for your feet and ears. They’re always down to get down, Spanish-Harlem style.
And to pre-celebrate the Fourth of July, the Encore Saxophone Quartet will perform baritone saxophone music Sunday night. Described by the Los Angeles Times as “stylish, dazzling, and glowing with the requisite rich color,” renowned saxophonist Douglas Masek and his band will fill the Bing Theater with exquisite and dynamic musicality.
