Politics and art join forces this weekend at LACMA with the opening of Shahn, Mooney, and the Apotheosis of American Labor on Sunday, July 22, with exclusive Member Previews through Saturday, July 21. This exhibition celebrates artist Ben Shahn's Apotheosis, 1932–33, an early social commentary work recently acquired by LACMA, and contains assorted political cartoons, paintings, pamphlets, and film footage that unravel details of the infamous case of Tom Mooney, a laborer and activist convicted for bombing a San Francisco parade in 1916, resulting in a cause célèbre for international socialism. 

Speaking of infamy, join local artists and educators this Saturday, July 21 at 1:30 and 3 pm for tours of A Universal History of Infamy—Those of this America. The exhibition, located at LACMA's satellite gallery in Charles White Elementary School, features works by contemporary Latino artists, writers, and activists exploring loss, resilience, and the political potential of poetic expression. 

For some musical expression, come to Jazz at LACMA on Friday, July 20, at 6 pm and listen to the rhythms of one of the most inventive, volcanic, and versatile drummers in music, Rayford Griffin. On Saturday, July 21, at 5 pm, Latin Sounds presents INCA, performing music of Inca heritage, spanning from the Andean region to the Peruvian and Bolivian Amazon Jungle. Then at Sundays Live on July 22 at 6 pm, experience the artistic talent of Europe's most renowned guitar duo, The Kupiński Guitar Duo.

In conjunction with the exhibition Decoding Mimbres Painting: Ancient Ceramics of the American Southwest, attend A Journey Among the Mimbres this Sunday, July 22, at 1 pm for a talk led by artist and musician Ed Kabotie, featuring artistic imagery and his unique "nu-native" style of music.
