This Weekend at LACMA

August 23, 2019
Victor Guzman, Marketing Coordinator

This weekend at LACMA, indulge your senses with sound and sight. Our latest exhibition, Christian Marclay: Sound Stories, opens to the public on August 25. Member Previews run through August 24. In Sound Stories, Marclay again fuses art and technology, using Snapchat videos as his raw materials. A collaboration between the artist and Snap, the project draws on the sounds and images of everyday life found on the multimedia messaging app Snapchat. Using algorithms created by a team of Snap engineers, Marclay experimented with millions of publicly posted Snapchat videos to create five immersive audiovisual installations, two of which are interactive. Rooted in a sampling aesthetic fundamental to Marclay's work, these installations respond to the storytelling available on Snapchat and visitors' sounds and movements in the gallery space.

Speaking of sounds, treat your ears to the sophisticated and spunky rhythms of the Cross Hart Jazz Experience on Friday, August 23 at 6 pm. Then on Saturday, August 24 at 5 pm join us for an evening of music and dancing as Uruguayan singer-songwriter Marcos Cohen makes his Latin Sounds debut accompanied by a band of leading musicians from South America.

If you're looking for fun-filled activities for the family, don't miss Art Days of Summer—Family Workshop. Drop-in on Friday from 12 to 3 pm for outdoor art activities open to participants of all ages. And for the little ones in your life, bring them to Story Time in the Galleries on Friday at 2 pm for an imaginative reading journey led by our friendly education staff. Lastly, test out your writing skills and learn more about the fascinating art of Korean calligraphy at Andell Family Sundays—The Art of Korean Writing on Sunday, August 25 from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. Participate in artist-led workshops inspired by the exhibition Beyond Line: The Art of Korean Writing where you'll get to take home your own handmade books for your writings.

Join the fun this weekend at LACMA and enjoy our new exhibitions, free concerts, and artist-led workshops. We hope you like the sound of that!
