As plans for the museum’s new permanent collection building, the David Geffen Galleries—designed by Peter Zumthor—are advancing, the ailing facilities on LACMA’s east campus will be closed to the public starting November 12, 2019.

Throughout the building project, LACMA’s west campus will continue to present exhibitions in BCAM and the Resnick Pavilion, including artworks from the museum’s permanent collection. Likewise, Urban Light and Levitated Mass will continue to welcome visitors while our robust schedule of music, education, and public programs will offer visitors plenty of opportunities to gather, learn, and find new inspiration. We will also be continuing our partnerships with schools, libraries, and other organizations to serve local communities, sharing art from our permanent collection throughout Los Angeles County.

Be sure to visit LACMA this weekend to see Christian Marclay: Sound Stories, Tony Smith’s Smoke, Henri Matisse’s La Gerbe, and visit the Boone Children’s Gallery, before they close on November 11! C+M is still serving coffee, tea, pastries, and more, now available at Stark Bar. Starting November 18, family art-making activities will resume as a series of pop-ups in the galleries before finding their new home in a temporary structure on the Smidt Welcome Plaza in spring of 2020.
