It's time for this month's edition of Third Weekends at LACMA, so come to the museum to enjoy workshops, screenings, and more special events that dive into our exhibitions, collections, and newly transformed campus—many of them free!

Interested in learning more about the David Geffen Galleries? In collaboration with the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles, a series of free workshops will let you see, draw, and explore the many remarkable elements of this new landmark starting on Friday, May 15, with a leisurely guided walk through the building where you'll reflect on sensory qualities of the space and engage in mindful observation. That afternoon, you can also step into a world of Impressionism and ballet at our Dancing Light figure drawing workshop and cap off the evening at a free concert with the Julius Rodriguez Trio at Jazz at LACMA!

On Saturday, May 16, join a drawing session in the Geffen Galleries, where you'll learn techniques for depicting architecture, or catch a screening of Tenzin Phuntsog’s Next Life  followed by a conversation with the filmmaker, presented in conjunction with the exhibition Realms of the Dharma: Buddhist Art Across Asia. Later that evening, spend golden hour at a roving performance by the Lula Washington Dance Theatre, who will move through and react to the Geffen Galleries' changing light and the newly reinstalled artworks from LACMA’s permanent collection.

On Sunday, May 17, wander through the outdoor spaces surrounding our new building as we reflect on how plants, pathways, open spaces, and exterior views shape the museum experience. That afternoon you can also learn or practice the game of kings under the guidance of DTLA Chess at our latest Let's Play session, or hear from artist Todd Gray as he provides insight about some of his most recent commissions and public art projects for LACMA and Metro Art.

As we count down to the upcoming World Cup, round off the weekend with an outdoor screening of Diego Maradona's famous “Hand of God” match from th 1986 World Cup. Bring friends, family, and a picnic and experience the beautiful game on the big screen in a communal, joyful setting, and don't forget to also check out Fútbol Is Life: Animated Sportraits by Lyndon J. Barrois, Sr. and the rest of our current exhibitions.
