It's that time of year! Jazz at LACMA kicks off its 27th season on Friday at 6 pm with trailblazing pianist, composer, and recording artist Jeff Lorber, joined by bassist Jimmy Haslip, drummer Third Richardson, and saxophonist Bob Reynolds.
On Saturday, check out exhibitions on campus, from large-scale paintings by Young-Il Ahn to David Hockney's portraits of friends and family to the arts of the ancient city of Teotihuacan. At Vincent Price Art Museum in Monterey Park, participate in a Family Day that includes free art workshops, tours, and lectures in conjunction with two exhibitions: Egyptian art and photographs by Mariana Yampolsky, both from LACMA's collection. At Charles White Elementary School Gallery, join writers Rocío Carlos, Sesshu Foster, Carribean Fragoza, and Stephanie Guerrero for a reading of their works responding to the exhibition A Universal History of Infamy: Those of This America.
Wind down the weekend with art-making at Andell Family Sundays, docent-led tours of exhibitions and the permanent collection, and a free concert with pianist Nadia Shpachenko. Are you a LACMA member?
